Self-recovery in the sand - not so easy

Sand games, dunes, getting stuck, getting stuck, self-recovery, anchor points, deep sand, self-recovery in the sand, 4wd and 4x4 recovery in off-road conditions

Few dare to go off-road alone in the sand. And for good reason - because the work is strenuous and takes time. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to play sand games in the big dunes of Namibia at a pleasant 22 degrees Celsius. Even 4x4 drive and differential locks reach their limits all too quickly.

With a good recovery kit, you can get out of such situations with a manageable effort.

The following video visualises very well that such approaches as burying the spare tyre have their pitfalls in addition to the required muscle power with 33" or larger tyres. It deals with the possibilities of creating such anchor points in the sand.

The recovery with the buried Hi-Lift brought tears to my eyes, I hope that this part will inspire you as well.

The Deadman anchor made there seems to me to be quite suitable for sand, but it will not be included in our recovery kit. Because I can't think of any scenario where I couldn't help myself with the existing recovery kit, with Maxtrax and Airjack - not with a rather even smaller effort.

But here again a hint: it is worth playing in the sand with an escort vehicle, especially for beginners who still have to learn to "read the sand".  This way you have an anchor point and can help each other.
