Collecting points of interests for your worldtrip using google

How to collect POI for your worldtrip or travelling plans, Point of Interest (POI)

At the first step of plan our exended jorney I suggest, that you start collection POI (points of interests) for the specific route.

To know what options are there, will lead to a better approximate route planning.

As tool you can use google-maps or like mentioned in another article, tripline.

Both tools allows to share the dataset, allows colaboration, working together with other peoples.

This way you don`t miss something you may regret later. I always add a point I did like, if I detect them at social media or at a travelling blog.

Like showed to the left, you can do categories for each kind of sightseeing spot.

Using Google "My Maps"

Create a map

On your computer, sign in to https://mymaps.google.com/
Click Create a new map.
Go to the top left and click "Untitled map."
Give your map a name and description.

Open a map
On your computer, sign in to https://mymaps.google.com/
You’ll see maps you’ve made or viewed as well as maps shared with you.
Optional: To see popular maps and staff picks, click Explore.

It is funny that there is no way to enter directly from maps.google.com, I did struggle to reach that this way. You can use all the ways google allows to collaborate, you can even embed the map in your blog, like we did at "about us" here at vanlife.4x4tripping.com.

Google My Maps let you export your collected data to your navigation unit or app, what is a big advantage in my eyes.

You can also mix the route planning function with the Google POI collection like showed here.

You have to collect those waypoints by your own, you have to preselect those who are worth to visit. If you get a 5K POI list you didnt know at the end - what is worth to visit.
