Adapter for cartridges: Replacement Campinggaz R904/R907

Who hasn't experienced it, the next trip is planned - and you start thinking about whether the gas bottle will still be able to cope with this trip. Is the gas bottle half full or already empty? Or whether you should replace it as a precaution.

There are many travel blogs where motorhome travellers with Campinggaz gas cylinders such as the R904, R907 or R901 report problems with purchasing or replacing the cylinder. You don't even have to travel far away for this, even in Europe the search can take a long time depending on the country you are travelling to.

Or consider whether you really need to carry a spare bottle. Despite my good research skills, I had to search a little longer until I found a remedy.

Because what is available in DIY stores almost all over the world? These small gas cartridges with DIN EN 417 connection. The small cartridge gas bottles usually offer a better price/performance ratio. I am not primarily concerned with saving money.

                                    

I wanted a replacement gas supply that would take up little space - and could also be sourced abroad. And this solution allows cooking with both the gas cartridges in spray bottle form and the normal small cartridges.

And even with a motorhome or VW California Ocean, Westfalia Bulli or Ford Nugget, you are no longer dependent on the usually not very cheap Campinggaz bottles.

Was I just sitting on the line here? When I browse through the forums, this topic seems to be a bit of a perennial issue. Because we travellers are looking for an easy way to get gas abroad as well as for the more suitable gas mixtures for winter camping or Nordkapp tours.

Usually the cartridges are filled with butane, propane or a corresponding gas mixture. Butane, which is used exclusively in the large Campingaz cylinders (R901, R904, R907), can no longer be ignited below -0.5°C. This means that we can use the above-mentioned adapters for example for winter camping or Nordkapp tours.

Thanks to the above-mentioned adapters, we can therefore use, for example, the following cartridges or screw-in cartridges with EN 417 and 7/16×28 UNEF connections.

If you are already on the road and envious of these adapters, I have picked up the following tips: In iOverlander you can see if you can buy gas nearby. Campinggaz is also used in yachts. In addition to asking questions in campsites, campsites, DIY stores and well-stocked gas stations - it is also worth asking a port, the yachts also need gas, sometimes from Campinggaz.

The solution outlined above seems to me to be very useful for the bus group that only needs gas for cooking. Of course, you could also handle an LPG gas bottle like the Gaslow, Alugas or Gardinger here and then fill up at LPG filling stations even more cheaply, but the price doesn’t pay for itself so quickly, for example, filling up with portable gas bottles is not permitted in Germany either. There are also great LPG adapter sets for travelers for LPG. Many fill the aluminum gas cylinders themselves at home, which is also an option.

The small plug-in cartridges and the above adapters are also helpful for those who prefer to grill their meat outside on a grill, the large gas bottle can simply remain in the mobile home. This Article is also available in german language.
