A rental car trip in a foreign counry is already sufficient for this - we world travelers are even more interested in this.

Especially for cross-border travels one wants to connect expensive data connections, so the navigation solution should also work offline.

With regard to worldwide navigation, a lot has changed. HERE or Here.com (formerly Smart2Go, Map24, Navteq, Nokia Maps) has excelled here. This map base is also used in the permanently installed navigation devices in VW, BMW, Toyota and Mercedes, among others.

The app "Here" available for iOS/ Android offers detailed road maps for 196 countries, which can also be downloaded for offline operation. In 95 countries, Here's familiar navigation habits with "turn left in 50m" including street names and house numbers work completely smoothly.

It has a reason that "here" is too on our detailed list of Apps for travelling where we list all apps together with the specific use case, where we use them exactly,
